Currently, the state of Minnesota does not have a statewide Board that governs and oversees the licensing process for becoming a massage therapist. Licensing/Certification Requirements

As it stands, the state of Minnesota does not have any licensing or certification requirements for you as an aspiring massage therapist. The Minnesota legislature is working on Statute 146A for there to be a governmental influence on the licensing of massage therapists. This process could take months, and even years before a board or agency is created to formulate rules and regulations for becoming licensed. Requirements to Start a Massage Business in Minnesota (Massage Establishment)

For now, there are no requirements for starting a massage business in the state of Minnesota. However, each particular city or county may have requirements that you will need to abide by. Be sure to check with the office nearest to you to find out more information regarding a massage business in Minnesota.

Massage License Renewal Process

Because there are no rules or requirements for obtaining a massage therapy license, a renewal of your massage license is not required. However, it is always a good idea to further your education and have continuing education credits. This will help protect you, inform you and offer the best service to all of your clients.

Massage License Reciprocity

In terms of reciprocity, it is not required that you apply for reciprocity in the state of Minnesota. However, be sure to check with each city or county to ensure that you are not required to submit any forms or documentation before beginning your practice.
