Important Tuition Related Questions to Ask Your Massage School

It’s great that you want to become a massage therapist. However, before you enroll into massage school there are some things that you need to consider about the school, specifically for example, how the tuition structure works. The best practice of course is to start early and not to pick the first school you come across and instead do some research.

Look into more than one school during your research. If you want to get information about massage schools near to your place, you can look it up utilizing our comprehensive database. Once you have a couple of names on your list, you can start to visit each school and this is where your research journey begins.

Gathering Pamphlets for Each School

Once you have made a list of the massage schools that you want to attend, you should first request free information and then visit the admissions office of each one you like. You initially do not have to discuss anything with the admissions office and all you have to do is gather pamphlets from all of them. These pamphlets will give you basic knowledge about the school’s requirements, and other relevant matters.

Our database makes it easy for you to do this. Instead of finding and contacting each school separately, our database allows you to narrow your search to the top schools around you and request information from all of them. Make sure you use this to save time.

Once you have the pamphlets, you can learn all about the school, including their tuition structure. Once you have brochures from all the different schools you have selected, you should go through them in detail. Look for the schools that seem the most convenient to you. This is simply to ensure that the school is located near you, teaches the massage techniques you want to learn, etc.

Be very vigilant when short listing the schools. Remember that you will be spending a significant amount of time there. So, the school route, distance from your house, courses, etc. should be in accordance with your preference. Once you have shortlisted a few schools, you will need to visit them once again. This time you will need to ask them important questions regarding the tuition. Be detailed and do not hesitate to ask the school resource person to repeat any information which you did not understand fully.

Asking About the Faculty

It is very important to ask about the faculty because the quality of education you receive depends greatly on the quality of the education providers. Moreover, schools with experienced and educated faculty members generally provide better tuitions at a higher tuition fee.

You have to be clear about this aspect so that you can compare two schools easily. Without this information it will be difficult for you to reach a conclusion.

School’s Participation in Title IV Funding

If you are planning to get a loan from the Federal Government to cover your tuition, you have to check this with every school you visit. Title IV funding is a program in which the Federal Government provides the school with loans and grants. There are certain schools which participate in Title IV Funding. These schools also allow students to get loans from the Federal government.

On the other hand, there are some schools which do not participate in Title IV Funding. These schools are not allowed to receive any type of grant or loan from the Federal Government. Even though this may seem irrelevant, it could have a significant impact on your plan to study there.

Schools that do not participate in Title IV Funding do not allow students to receive loans or grants either. You may qualify for the loan, and may even demonstrate the need for one. However, you will not be permitted to receive a loan anyway. Bear in mind that in addition to loans and grants, there are certain other types of financial aid that you cannot accept as well.

These financial aids may include some types of military benefits and state benefits. Of course, you may find a number of other ways to pay for massage school. But if you were relying on a Federal loan, this is something you must consider. Always remember that a massage school does not have to be recognized by the Federal government.

Remember to check with the school and find out why they are not a participant in Title IV Funding. In rare, but highly probable cases, this could be a red flag for that particular massage school’s operations.

Even before you head out to gather information about the massage schools you like, you should prepare yourself for situations where you may not be able to source any information at all. If you were not able to attain any general information about the school, do not be disappointed. Try and gather information about the fee structure at least.

Breakdown of Fee Structure of School

Some schools display a very convenient fee structure and you may think that it quite easy to get through the course. However, they may not mention certain miscellaneous costs. You may end up paying thousands of dollars on top of your regular fee if you do not account for this.

  • First and foremost, you have to account for each type of fee. This is because there is never a just a single type of fee for any type of school. Depending upon the fee structure, you may have to pay a monthly, quarterly or yearly fee. There may also be additional fees for services, applications, etc. that students require. Therefore, you should consider each and every aspect and get a complete breakdown of the school fee structure.
  • The second type of expenditure you have to consider is supplies. In some schools you may get a massage table and necessary supplies to use. However, in many renowned schools you will have to get your own. A massage table alone can cost a hefty amount, let alone other supplies like lotions, oils, etc.
  • Last but not the least; you have to account for your daily expenditures. If the school is far from your home, the travelling expenses can add a substantial amount to your expenses. Of course, if you are living in a hostel, you will have to consider hostel costs as well.

To sum it up, make sure that you ask questions regarding the faculty, tuition and fee structure, general practices, and everything else that may impact your education in any way. Doing so will ensure that you have a good experience learning at a given school at a price you can afford.
