Do any massage therapy schools in ohio offer the ability to just do the hands on portion of the learning?..i am taking courses through USCAREERINSTITUTION.ORG..but they said i could do the hands on at a local school instead of going to Colorado for 4 weeks. Do you know any schools that would allow me to finish my training in ohio?

  8. Brenda says:

I am interested in going to a massage therapy school I am an esthetician and want to add massage to increase my income. I work at a resort in northern Michigan and they will lay me off for 4 months to go back to school to further my education…. I have found an accelerated program in coasta rica that takes 3 1/2 months. I cannot afford to take off more time than that and I haven’t found any other programs in the states that require less than 6 months. The closest school in my area is 3 hours away and takes 10 months. I can do the same hours in coasta rica school of massage in half the time Since they are an international school what are my options for student loans. I cannot do it without loan money. I have borrowed in the past for my esthetic program and I have made regular payments for three years. Could you please advise me what my options are for loans and or grants. Thank you

    • Neal Lyons says:

Brenda – you may see that your options are less as you look outside the contiguous United States. Please also take into account cost of housing / traveling vs cost of education locally and the opportunity cost of lost wages as the schooling is longer. Another thing to look out for is whether your Costa Rica credits will apply in the State you are interested in practicing in. Many variables here. Let us know what you are thinking, what you are leaning toward and why.

  11. Cara says:

I am looking for a massage program in N.E. PA. I have visited Fortis and read reviews from multiple sites, and they are NOT a place I would consider attending. I also visited McCann School in Dickson City and was pleased with what I found, but would love to have your feedback on that particular school before I commit. I appreciate any info you could give. Thanks!

    • Neal Lyons says:

      Hi Cara

Please email us privately as you are seeking comments specific to a school. Happy to help you.

      • Cara says:

Could you please tell me more about McCann’s Massage Therapy program-if there are good results for the graduates, or if the certificate received truly is a waste of time? I’m having a hard time finding info from those who have completed the program. I truly appreciate your input, and would love to know about a program in my area (Scranton, PA) that is reputable. Thank you for your time.

I have small kids at home and am Sabbath observant. I would like to start working towards a certification (recognized in Georgia), that will allow me to do other hands on work (reflexology and Craniosacral therapy).
Is there an online program that I can learn at my pace (and finish hands on work locally?)

    • Neal Lyons says:

Malkie, there are plenty of online programs that offer this. please use our database to search for a suitable one for you. you will have to complete the hands on portion in-person however, but you can do the rest of the coursework at home/online at your own pace.

  18. Jessica says:

If I get my training online from U.S. Career Institute and do the hands on training at their site in Colorado, will I be able to use my certificate to be a massage therapist in Illinois?

    • Neal Lyons says:

Jessica, as long as you meet IL’s requirements you will be able to practice there. have you checked with the IL state board if what you are doing is acceptable? it is always best to check first as you want to make sure your classes and training counts toward your license in IL.

  19. Christine says:

Does anyone know of a good or legitimate school in Casper, WY where I can be certified in massage therapy?

  20. Carol says:

If I get my training online from U.S. Career Institute and do the hands on training at their site in Colorado, will I be able to use my certificate to be a massage therapist in Oregon?

I have tried to reach the Board in Salem, Or, but have been unable to reach them directly.

    • Neal Lyons says:

Carol, the general rule is that your education must meet the requirements of the state wherein you plan to get licensed and practice. Many states have similar requirements. It does not matter where you complete your education so as long you meet the requirements. Does that help?

Accreditation is generally tied to your ability to sit for the exam to get you certified. Hard to say which school is better for you as it is a very personal decision. Our best advice is to request information from both and evaluate them individually.
