Becoming a Massage Therapist Offers Moms a Good Job With Flexibility

Becoming a massage therapist can be a very good job for mothers who want to spend as much time with their kids as possible. If you look at the statistics, many massage therapists are women who have familial obligations outside of work. Many of these are single mothers who do not have much of a support system to help them raise their children.

Becoming a massage therapist for these mothers is often an enticing proposition because most massage therapists work as independent 1099 contractors, which means they can set their own schedule. As an independent contractor, you are not tied to a facility, which means you can leave your place of work in between appointments, or leave early for the day if you no longer have appointments scheduled.

When you are a full time employee, or also called a W9 employee, you have to remain within the confined of your employment during the entire shift that you are scheduled for. If you work 9 to 5, you cannot leave the premises outside of exceptional situations, routine breaks and of course lunch or dinner.

For people with unpredictable schedules, obligations outside work such as family and children, a job as a therapist on an independent contractor status offers a lot of flexibility. For example, if you have kids and your kids go to school in the morning, you can schedule your appointments from the time you drop off your kids until then time you pick them up.

You can drop your kids off to school on your way to work, and similarly pick them up on your way back home from work. The same can be done over nights and weekends.  If you are able to make arrangements for someone to take care of your kids, whether friends, family, day care or school, you can schedule additional appointments around your schedule.

If you are someone who needs a lot of flexibility in your schedule, you want to consider the massage therapy career route.  This career choice is not only lucrative from an earning potential perspective, but it can also offer a lot of freedom and flexibility to control your own schedule.
